The latest on preventing dementia–good and bad news.
Lancet Commission on the prevention of dementia focuses on 9 risk factors: they suggestion modifying the following: low education, midlife hearing loss, obesity, hypertension, late-life depression, smoking, physical inactivity, diabetes, and social isolation. Yet, this only controls 33% of the variance determining onset of dementia later in life. There are no conclusive treatments still.
There are thus three intervention “classes”: cognitive training, physical exercise, and blood pressure management in hypertension.
